Cliff Bowen was born in 1942 and brought up in South Wales. He studied at Newport College of Art in the early 1960s. Having lectured at Glasgow School of Art from 1972, he became Head of Sculpture in1976. At present he works part time as a lecturer in the Department of Sculpture and Environmental Art at Glasgow. The artist writes about his BAMS medal, Moments on a March Day: ‘My medal is based on a still-life drawing I made in 1983 of daffodils in a clear glass jar, which was drawn on a March day. This is combined on the reverse with a view of a rain shower seen on a March day in 2003. I am interested in remembered experience combined with fresh experience and the expressing of these.’
