Marián Polonsky (b. 1943) trained at the Bratislava Academy, and is now one of Slovakia’s foremost medallists.

The medal was commissioned by BAMS in 1989. As the legend states, “the seed of this medal has been sprouting/germinating in the studio of the Slovak sculptor Marián Polonsky for three years’. The images evoke different forms of life, botanical on one side and zoological on the other.
