Mason has been lecturer in sculpture at Loughborough College of Art and Design since 1981. The Cove originated from engravings of Lulworth Cove in Dorset, made from the vantage point of a cliff. Whilst it and the Beach are quite different in viewpoint and mood, both, as the artist has written, ‘are created and bound by the same tactile qualities of edge line and surface’.
