Ashby’s Rubber Lover medal was commended in the Royal College of Art’s 1991 medal competition. The artist has written that, in his Medal Lover, ‘the figure represents the ultimate collector, the person that simply has to have it, whatever it may be. The passion for the subject in question is illustrated through the extremely intimate hugging action of the figure to his medal.’
