Gunston is a sculptor living and working in London. She wrote: ‘The medal Summer shows a girl plunging her feet in a bowl of water. It is a subject I have treated before in sculptures, drawings and prints. To wash or cool the feet in water is a strangely resonant action, with echoes of Biblical or Classical themes. One thinks, too, of the ancient association of water with the feminine’.
